A 海角乱伦社区 education professor on the language of science鈥攁nd how to get kids excited about learning it
Science is the easiest subject to teach, according to Bryan Brown, associate professor of education at 海角乱伦社区.
Why? For one thing, he offered, science deals with actual questions that kids have about the world around them.
鈥淪cience is the story of real things happening,鈥 Brown said on this episode of School鈥檚 In. 鈥淚f I want to know, 鈥榃hy did I get a cold,鈥 science offers an answer. If I want to know, 鈥榃hy is this bird blue?鈥 or 鈥榃hy doesn鈥檛 my sister look like me even though she鈥檚 my sister,鈥 science enables us to answer.鈥
Brown joined Graduate School of Education Dean Dan Schwartz and Senior Lecturer Denise Pope in the studio to talk about why the language of science can get in the way of teaching concepts, and what parents and teachers can do to help make the subject more accessible.
鈥淲e don鈥檛 tap into [students鈥橾 understanding of the world already,鈥 said Brown. 鈥淭here鈥檚 so much wisdom in what they already know.鈥
